The 2026 Toyota RAV4 marks the debut of the sixth generation, featuring a complete redesign and a shift to an all-electrified lineup in Canada. The traditional gasoline-only engine has been discontinued, leaving the 5th-generation Hybrid (HEV) and the Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) as the sole powertrain options.

Three Bold Design Directions

The 2026 RAV4 doesn't try to be one thing to everyone — it comes in three distinct exterior design themes, each targeting a different kind of driver.

Core Design (LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Limited): The everyday all-rounder features Toyota's new "Hammerhead" front end, a paint-matched grille, wide overfenders, and an ascending beltline. Clean, modern, and unfussy.

Rugged Design (Woodland): Now its own standalone grade, the Woodland gets a raised ride height, all-terrain tires, a black split grille with integrated Rigid Industries LED lighting, raised roof rails with crossbars, and a rear activity mount for outdoor gear. It burns a touch more fuel than its siblings due to the aggressive rubber and extra ground clearance, but at a combined 6.0 L/100 km, it still bests the Honda CR-V Hybrid, Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, and Subaru Forester Hybrid.

Sport Design (XSE, XSE Technology Package, and the all-new GR Sport — PHEV only): The sportiest RAV4s ever wear aggressive mesh grilles, emphasized bumpers, and bold body cladding. The GR Sport is a genuine first: a RAV4 developed in partnership with Toyota GAZOO Racing, complete with GR-tuned suspension, power steering, reinforced chassis bracing, 20-inch alloy wheels, red-painted brake calipers, and a 0–100 km/h sprint time of 5.7 seconds. It's the most performance-focused RAV4 Toyota has ever built.

New colours for 2026 include Brown Sugar, Everest, and Storm Cloud, while the Woodland-exclusive Urban Rock and the GR Sport-exclusive Supersonic Red with black roof add further individuality to the lineup.

1. Performance & Powertrains

All Canadian models now come standard with All-Wheel Drive (AWD).

2. Key Technology Upgrades

The 2026 model introduces a "Software-Defined Vehicle" architecture powered by Toyota’s new Arene platform.

Digital Cockpit: A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is now standard across all trims.

Infotainment: A 10.5-inch touchscreen is standard, with a larger 12.9-inch display available on XSE and Limited trims.

Climate Controls: HVAC settings are now digitally integrated into a fixed bar at the bottom of the central touchscreen.

Connectivity: Enhanced 5G connectivity, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a new "Digital Drive Recorder" (onboard dashcam) are available.

Charging: PHEV XSE and Woodland trims now support DC Fast Charging, allowing a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 30–35 minutes.

3. Safety: Toyota Safety Sense 4.0

The 2026 RAV4 is the first to feature TSS 4.0, which includes:

Enhanced Detection: Improved camera and radar for better recognition of motorcyclists and guardrails.

Proactive Driving Assist: Gentle braking and steering support for distance control and curve navigation.

Emergency Driving Stop System: Can safely bring the vehicle to a halt if the driver is unresponsive while Lane Tracing Assist is active.

Safe Exit Assist: Now standard, often linked to ambient door lighting to warn of approaching cyclists or vehicles.
