In Canada, the Toyota RAV4 is a top target for theft. This has driven many insurers to apply expensive surcharges for these models. Owners can often have these reduced by installing an approved aftermarket anti-theft device. Insurers sometimes subsidize all or part of the cost. The most widely accepted solution by insurers is the TAG tracking system, known for its high vehicle recovery rate. Discounts may also apply for devices like OBD port locks (a physical or electronic security device that covers or disables a vehicle's On-Board Diagnostics (OBDII) port) and aftermarket immobilizers. Check with your insurer to find out what solutions are approved for use.
